Designing molecules: directing stem cell differentiation

Stem cells have been widely applied in regenerative and therapeutic medicine for their unique regenerative properties. Although much research has shown their potential, it remains tricky in directing stem cell differentiation. The advancement of genetic and therapeutic technologies, however, has facilitated this issue through development of design molecules. These molecules are designed to overcome the drawbacks previously faced, such as unexpected differentiation outcomes and insufficient migration of endogenous or exogenous MSCs. Here, we introduced aptamer, bacteriophage, and biological vectors as design molecules and described their characteristics. The methods of designing/developing discussed include various Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX) procedures, in silico approaches, and non-SELEX methods for aptamers, and genetic engineering methods such as homologous recombination, Bacteriophage Recombineering of Electroporated DNA (BRED), Bacteriophage Recombineering with Infectious Particles (BRIP), and genome rebooting for bacteriophage. For biological vectors, methods such as alternate splicing, multiple promoters, internal ribosomal entry site, CRISPR-Cas9 system and Cre recombinase mediated recombination were used to design viral vectors, while non-viral vectors like exosomes are generated through parental cell-based direct engineering. Besides that, we also discussed the pros and cons, and applications of each design molecule in directing stem cell differentiation to illustrate their great potential in stem cells research. Finally, we highlighted some safety and efficacy concerns to be considered for future studies.

Screening of Cross-Reactive Aptamers for the Detection of 24 Quinolones by Using a Liebig's Law-Guided Parallel-Series Strategy.

Quinolones, a widely used class of antibiotics, present significant environmental and health concerns if they excessively remain in the environment and in food. Aptamers specific to quinolones can be applied as bioreceptors for the detection of quinolone residues in the environment and food. The quinolone family contains dozens of different individuals that share the same core structure coupled with various substituents at six different positions. The diversity and complexity of the substitution sites make it a challenge to choose a set of representative molecules that encompass all the desired sites and preserve the core molecular framework for the screening of quinolone-specific aptamers via systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX). To address this challenge, we introduce a novel parallel-series strategy guided by Liebig's law for isolating quinolone-specific cross-reactive aptamers by using the library-immobilized SELEX method. Through this approach, we successfully identified 5 aptamers (Apt.AQ01-Apt.AQ05) with high binding affinity and excellent specificity to 24 different quinolone individuals. Among them, Apt.AQ03 showcased optimal performance with affinities ranging from 0.14 to 1.07 μM across the comprehensive set of 24 quinolones, exhibiting excellent specificity against nontarget interferents. The binding performance of Apt.AQ03 was further characterized with microscale thermophoresis, circular dichroism spectra, and an exonuclease digestion assay. By using Apt.AQ03 as a bioreceptor, a fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) aptasensor was developed for the detection of 24 quinolones in milk, achieving a remarkable detection limit of 14.5-21.8 ng/mL. This work not only establishes a robust and effective strategy for selecting cross-reactive aptamers applicable to other small-molecule families but also provides high-quality aptamers for developing various high-throughput and reliable methods for the detection of multiple quinolone residues in food.

Aptamer-modified Nanocarrier(s) for the Management of Prostate Cancer

Abstract: Prostate cancer remains a significant global health concern, necessitating the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. This editorial provides an overview of the current state of research on aptamer-modified nanocarriers as a novel strategy for prostate cancer therapy. Aptamers, known for their high specificity and affinity, have drawn much attention in both research and the pharmaceutical industry. The Systematic Evolution of Ligands by the Exponential Enrichment (SELEX) technique has enabled the development of aptamers that can selectively bind to target ligands based on their unique three-dimensional structures. Notably, the A10 aptamer, modified to target PSMA (Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen), has demonstrated strong binding affinity and specificity to prostate cancer cells, offering promise as an efficient drug-delivery system. Additionally, biosensors, like the innovative apta-sensor targeting MUC1, have utilized aptamers to detect cancer through electrochemical signals. Additionally, aptamers have improved the pharmacological attributes of chemotherapeutic agents for prostate cancer treatment. Aptamer-- mediated drug delivery has offered enhanced drug delivery, targeting, cellular uptake, and minimizing side effects.

Development of a CRISPR/Cas12a-mediated aptasensor for Mpox virus antigen detection

The emergence and rapid spread of Mpox (formerly monkeypox) have caused significant societal challenges. Adequate and appropriate diagnostics procedures are an urgent necessity. Herein, we discover a pair of aptamers through the systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) that exhibit high affinity and bind to different sites towards the A29 protein of the Mpox virus. Subsequently, we propose a facile, sensitive, convenient CRISPR/Cas12a-mediated aptasensor for detecting the A29 antigen. The procedure employs the bivalent aptamers recognition, which induces the formation of a proximity switch probe and initiates subsequent cascade strand displacement reactions, then triggers CRISPR/Cas12a DNA trans-cleavage to achieve the sensitive detection of Mpox. Our method enables selective and ultrasensitive evaluation of the A29 protein within the range of 1 ng mL−1 to 1 μg mL−1, with a limit of detection (LOD) at 0.28 ng mL−1. Moreover, spiked A29 protein recovery exceeds 96.9%, while the detection activity remains above 91.9% after six months of storage at 4 °C. This aptasensor provides a novel avenue for exploring clinical diagnosis in cases involving Mpox as facilitating development in various analyte sensors.

Advancing the Diagnosis of Periprosthetic Joint Infections: Integrated Microfluidic Platform for Alpha-Defensins-Specific Aptamer Selection and Its Analytical Applications.

Periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) pose a significant challenge in orthopedic surgery, particularly total joint arthroplasty (TJA), due to the potential for implant failure and increased patient morbidity. Early and accurate detection of PJIs is crucial for timely intervention and better patient prognosis. Herein, we successfully screened a high-affinity aptamer targeting alpha-defensin complex human neutrophil protein 1-3 (HNP 1-3; potential PJI biomarkers in synovial fluid [SF]) for the first time using systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) on an integrated microfluidic platform. The compact microfluidic device enabled efficient screening, with each round completed within <2 h, comprising five rounds of positive selection, two rounds of negative selection, and one round of competitive selection. A novel one-aptamer-one-antibody assay was further developed from the optimal aptamer screened, and it could accurately quantify HNP 1-3 in SF within 3 h with only ∼50 μL of SF. The assay demonstrated strong binding affinity and specificity for the target protein in SF. Thirteen PJI SF samples were accurately diagnosed and the assay was accurate over a wide dynamic range (0.32-100 mg/L). This study has showcased a rapid and accurate diagnostic tool for PJI detection, which should see widespread use in the clinic, holding promise for potential analytical applications in orthopedic surgery and improving patient care.

Biophysical characterization and design of a minimal version of the Hoechst RNA aptamer

RNA aptamers are oligonucleotides, selected through Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential Enrichment (SELEX), that can bind to specific target molecules with high affinity. One such molecule is the RNA aptamer that binds to a blue-fluorescent Hoechst dye that was modified with bulky t-Bu groups to prevent non-specific binding to DNA. This aptamer has potential for biosensor applications; however, limited information is available regarding its conformation, molecular interactions with the ligand, and binding mechanism. The study presented here aims to biophysically characterize the Hoechst RNA aptamer when complexed with the t-Bu Hoechst dye and to further optimize the RNA sequence by designing and synthesizing new sequence variants. Each variant aptamer-t-Bu Hoechst complex was evaluated through a combination of fluorescence emission, native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, fluorescence titration, and isothermal titration calorimetry experiments. The results were used to design a minimal version of the aptamer consisting of only 21 nucleotides. The performed study also describes a more efficient method for synthesizing the t-Bu Hoechst dye derivative. Understanding the biophysical properties of the t-Bu Hoechst dye-RNA complex lays the foundation for nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies and its potential development as a building block for an aptamer-based biosensor that can be used in medical, environmental or laboratory settings.

Abstract LB432: Identification of novel drug targets using the ADAPT biotargeting system on FFPE tissue from patients with glioblastoma multiforme

Abstract Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) is one of the most aggressive and lethal brain tumor types with a five-year survival rate of 6.9%. In 2023, more than 14,490 Americans were expected to receive a diagnosis. Although great progress has been achieved in protein target identification and treatment over the last few years, current treatment options are limited, and tumor recurrence occurs at a high rate due to treatment resistance. Aptamers, short single-stranded oligonucleotide ligands with high-affinity binding to molecular targets, are well suited tools for exploring novel targets in highly heterogeneous tumors with complex etiologies like GBM, where clinically relevant biomarkers are limited. In this study, aptamer-based cancer-specific drug target identification was performed by Adaptive Dynamic Artificial Polyligand Targeting (ADAPT) Biotargeting System. In short, a GBM-specific library was enriched through a Systematic Evolution of Ligands by EXponential enrichment (SELEX) process using micro dissected Formalin-Fixed Paraffin-Embedded (FFPE) tissues from GBM patients, along with whole body normal tissue for counterselection. Microdissection of tissue allows the partitioning of different types of cells to focus on specific cells of interest. The enriched libraries have been evaluated on clinical GBM and normal brain control samples through aptamer mediated tissue staining, resulting in preferential binding of enriched libraries compared to controls in the vast majority of GBM patients with little binding to normal brain samples. The final library was subsequently applied in an in-house developed library-based affinity pull-down assay using lysates from FFPE tissue of the same group of GBM patients and normal brain samples, followed by unbiased Mass Spectrometry for protein target identification. Combining the results from this proteomics analysis and data from the internal Whole Transcriptome Sequencing (WTS) database, we were able to identify several targets that are highly expressed in GBM and other cancer lineages. Antibody staining provided further validation of the expression levels and the cellular localization. The targets identified in this study include not only potential novel therapeutic targets, but also well-studied biomarkers and targets with available drugs already in clinical trials, demonstrating the platform has great potential for identifying high affinity binding and selectivity compared to traditional proteomics and other methods in drug target discovery. IMPATIENT-qPCR: monitoring SELEX success during in vitro aptamer evolution

SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential enrichment) processes aim on the evolution of high-affinity aptamers as binding entities in diagnostics and biosensing. Aptamers can represent game-changers as constituents of diagnostic assays for the management of instantly occurring infectious diseases or other health threats. Without in-process quality control measures SELEX suffers from low overall success rates. We present a quantitative PCR method for fast and easy quantification of aptamers bound to their targets. Simultaneous determination of melting temperatures (Tm) of each SELEX round delivers information on the evolutionary success via the correlation of increasing GC content and Tm alone with a round-wise increase of aptamer affinity to the respective target. Based on nine successful and published previous SELEX processes, in which the evolution/selection of aptamer affinity/specificity was demonstrated, we here show the functionality of the IMPATIENT-qPCR for polyclonal aptamer libraries and resulting individual aptamers. Selection of ssDNA aptamers and construction of aptameric electrochemical biosensor for the detection of Giardia intestinalis trophozoite protein

Giardia intestinalis is one of the most widespread intestinal parasites and is considered a major cause of epidemic or sporadic diarrhea worldwide. In this study, we aimed to develop a rapid aptameric diagnostic technique for G. intestinalis infection. First, the SELEX (Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment) process generated DNA aptamers specific to a recombinant protein of the parasite's trophozoite. Ten selection rounds were performed; each round, the DNA library was incubated with the target protein conjugated to Sepharose beads. Then, the unbound sequences were removed by washing and the specific sequences were eluted and amplified by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Two aptamers were selected, and the dissociation constants (Kd), determined as 2.45 and 16.95 nM, showed their high affinity for the G. intestinalis trophozoite protein. Subsequently, the aptamer sequence T1, which exhibited better affinity, was employed to develop a label-free electrochemical biosensor. A thiolated aptamer was covalently immobilized on a gold screen-printed electrode (SPGE), and the binding of the targeted protein was analyzed by square wave voltammetry (SWV). The developed aptasensor enabled accurate detection of the G. intestinalis recombinant protein within the range of 0.1 pg/mL to 100 ng/mL, with an excellent sensitivity (LOD of 0.35 pg/mL). Moreover, selectivity studies showed a negligible cross-reactivity toward other proteins such as bovine serum albumin, globulin, and G. intestinalis cyst protein.

Identification of antibiotic-resistance markers of Edwardsiella tarda using aptamers

Edwardsiella tarda poses significant challenges in the aquaculture sector due to its antibiotic resistance, leading to substantial economic loss in the aquaculture industry. Therefore, it is imperative to identify antibiotic-resistance markers to prevent and control E. tarda. In the present study, we used tetracycline-sensitive (S) and resistant (R) E. tarda strains and six non-target bacterial strains, to develop aptamers through the Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment technique. We then conducted comparative analysis of these aptamers based on their relative importance index values and selected six candidate sequences (M1, M13, M15, N57, N69, and N71) for affinity verification. The results showed that M1 had significantly higher affinity towards both the S and R strains compared to the non-target strains. M13 and M15 had significantly higher affinities for the S strain compared to the R strain and non-target strains, and N57, N69, and N71 had significantly higher affinities for R strains relative to the sensitive and non-target strains. Subsequent analysis indicated that N57 and N69 specifically recognized unique sites in the R strain. Therefore, our study presents a novel approach for detecting and controlling antibiotic-resistant strains of E. tarda and identification of drug-resistant markers in bacteria.

Review—Aptamers and Biomimetic Receptors in Biosensing: Innovations and Applications

The fields of biosensing have been transformed by the discovery of extraordinary molecular recognition components, such as aptamers and biomimetic receptors. Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX) is a method used to select aptamers, or short sequences of single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) or RNA (ssRNA), based on their unique binding affinity to target molecules. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) are a type of biomimetic receptor that mimics the selectivity of natural receptors inside a synthetic matrix. They make it possible to identify pathogens, and illness biomarkers with accuracy. Aptamers and biomimetic receptors play crucial roles in various fields including diagnostics, therapeutics, and biosensing. Their high specificity, versatility, and adaptability enable targeted detection, drug delivery, and biomolecule manipulation, thereby contributing to advancements in personalized medicine, biotechnology, and disease diagnosis. Aptamers and biomimetic receptors have been combined with cutting-edge technologies, like nanotechnology and lab-on-a-chip systems, to create biosensors that are quick, portable, and extremely sensitive. These recognition features are anticipated to become more important as technology develops, helping to address global issues, advance biosensing capabilities, and raise people’s standard of living everywhere. Recent advancements and innovation on Aptamers and Biomimetic Receptors in Biosensing have been discussed in this review article.

RNA sequences that direct selective ADAR editing from a SELEX library bearing 8-azanebularine

Adenosine Deaminases Acting on RNA (ADARs) catalyze the deamination of adenosine to inosine in double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). ADARs’ ability to recognize and edit dsRNA is dependent on local sequence context surrounding the edited adenosine and the length of the duplex. A deeper understanding of how editing efficiency is affected by mismatches, loops, and bulges around the editing site would aid in the development of therapeutic gRNAs for ADAR-mediated site-directed RNA editing (SDRE). Here, a SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) approach was employed to identify dsRNA substrates that bind to the deaminase domain of human ADAR2 (hADAR2d) with high affinity. A library of single-stranded RNAs was hybridized with a fixed-sequence target strand containing the nucleoside analog 8-azanebularine that mimics the adenosine deamination transition state. The presence of this nucleoside analog in the library biased the screen to identify hit sequences compatible with adenosine deamination at the site of 8-azanebularine modification. SELEX also identified non-duplex structural elements that supported editing at the target site while inhibiting editing at bystander sites.

Aptamers targeting SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein exhibit potential anti pan-coronavirus activity

Emerging and recurrent infectious diseases caused by human coronaviruses (HCoVs) continue to pose a significant threat to global public health security. In light of this ongoing threat, the development of a broad-spectrum drug to combat HCoVs is an urgently priority. Herein, we report a series of anti-pan-coronavirus ssDNA aptamers screened using Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX). These aptamers have nanomolar affinity with the nucleocapsid protein (NP) of Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and also show excellent binding efficiency to the N proteins of both SARS, MERS, HCoV-OC43 and -NL63 with affinity KD values of 1.31 to 135.36 nM. Such aptamer-based therapeutics exhibited potent antiviral activity against both the authentic SARS-CoV-2 prototype strain and the Omicron variant (BA.5) with EC50 values at 2.00 nM and 41.08 nM, respectively. The protein docking analysis also evidenced that these aptamers exhibit strong affinities for N proteins of pan-coronavirus and other HCoVs (−229E and -HKU1). In conclusion, we have identified six aptamers with a high pan-coronavirus antiviral activity, which could potentially serve as an effective strategy for preventing infections by unknown coronaviruses and addressing the ongoing global health threat.

Characterization of the Binding Properties of Ten Aptamers Using the Intrinsic Fluorescence of Oxytetracycline.

Tetracyclines are a class of commonly used four-ringed antibiotics. A series of DNA aptamers were recently obtained using the capture-SELEX (systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment) method to bind to oxytetracycline, and one of the aptamers can bind to a few other tetracycline antibiotics as well. Upon binding to the aptamers, the intrinsic fluorescence of tetracycline antibiotics can be enhanced. At least 10 different DNA aptamers were isolated from the previous selection experiment. In this work, a systematic characterization of these ten aptamers was performed. Each of these aptamers shows a different degree of fluorescence enhancement ranging from around 1-fold to over 20-fold. Fluorescence enhancement was boosted in the presence of Mg2+ . Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) studies were done and showed a great variety in dissociation constant (Kd ) from 62 nM to 1.6 μM. Steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy and fluorescence lifetime studies showed a correlation between fluorescence lifetime and degree of fluorescence enhancement. A few aptamers showed slow binding kinetics, although no correlation was found between the kinetics of fluorescence change and degree of fluorescence enhancement. This is the first study of ten different aptamers for the same target, providing fundamental insights into aptamer binding and bioanalytical applications.

Molecular modeling and simulation studies of SELEX-derived high-affinity DNA aptamers to the Ebola virus nucleoprotein

Ebola viral disease (EVD) is a highly infectious and potentially fatal illness with a case fatality rate ranging from 25% to 90%. To effectively control its spread, there is a need for rapid, reliable and lowcost point-of-care (P OC) diagnostic tests. While various EVD diagnostic tests exist, few are P OC tests, and many are not cost-effective. The use of antibodies in these tests has limitations, prompting the exploration of aptamers as potential alternatives. Various proteins from the Ebola virus (EBOV) proteome, including EBOV nucleoprotein (NP), are considered viable targets for diagnostic assays. A previous study identified three aptamers (Apt1. Apt2 and Apt3) with high affinity for EBOV NP using systemic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX). This study aimed to employ in silico methods, such as Phyre2, RNAfold, RNAComposer, HADDOCK and GROMACS, to model the structures of EBOV NP and the aptamers, and to investigate their binding. The in silico analysis revealed successful binding of all the three aptamers to EBOV NP, with a suggested ranking of Apt1 > Apt2 > Apt3 based on binding affinity. Microscale thermophoresis (MST) analysis confirmed the binding, providing dissociation constants of 25 ± 2.84, 56 ± 2.76 and 140 ±3.69 nM for Apt1, Apt2 and Apt3, respectively. The study shows that the findings of the in silico analysis was in agreement with the MST analysis. Inclusion of these in silico approaches in diagnostic assay development can expedite the selection of candidate aptamers, potentially overcoming challenges associated with aptamer application in diagnostics. Selection and application of highly specific Salmonella typhimurium aptamers against matrix interference

In practical applications, the structure and performance of aptamers can be influenced by the presence of sample matrices, which interferes with the specific binding between the aptamer and its target. In this work, to obtain aptamer chains resistant to matrix interference, four typical food matrices were introduced as negative selection targets and selection environments in the process of selecting aptamers for Salmonella typhimurium using the systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) technology. As a result, some highly specific candidate aptamers for Salmonella typhimurium (BB-34, BB-37, ROU-8, ROU-9, ROU-14, ROU-24, DAN-3, NAI-12, and NAI-21) were successfully obtained. Based on the characterization results of secondary structure, affinity, and specificity of these candidate aptamers, ROU-24 selected in the pork matrix and BB-34 selected in the binding buffer were chosen to develop label-free fluorescence aptasensors for the sensitive and rapid detection of the Salmonella typhimurium and verify the performance against matrix interference. The ROU-24-based aptasensor demonstrated a larger linear range and better specificity compared to the BB-34-based aptasensor. Meanwhile, the recovery rate of the ROU-24-based aptasensor in real sample detection (ranging from 94.2% to 110.7%) was significantly higher than that of the BB-34-based aptasensor. These results illustrated that the negative selection of food matrices induced in SELEX could enhance specific binding between the aptamer and its target and the performance against matrix interference. Overall, the label-free fluorescence aptasensors were developed and successfully validated in different foodstuffs, demonstrating a theoretical and practical basis for the study of aptamers against matrix interference.

Selection, characterization, and biosensing applications of DNA aptamers targeting cyanotoxin BMAA.

Scientists have established a connection between environmental exposure to toxins like β-N-methylamino-l-alanine (BMAA) and a heightened risk of neurodegenerative disorders. BMAA is a byproduct from certain strains of cyanobacteria that are present in ecosystems worldwide and is renowned for its bioaccumulation and biomagnification in seafood. The sensitivity, selectivity, and reproducibility of the current analytical techniques are insufficient to support efforts regarding food safety and environment monitoring adequately. This work outlines the in vitro selection of BMAA-specific DNA aptamers via the systematic evolution of ligands through exponential enrichment (SELEX). Screening and characterization of the full-length aptamers was achieved using the SYBR Green (SG) fluorescence displacement assay. Aptamers BMAA_159 and BMAA_165 showed the highest binding affinities, with dissociation constants (Kd) of 2.2 ± 0.1 μM and 0.32 ± 0.02 μM, respectively. After truncation, the binding affinity was confirmed using a BMAA-conjugated fluorescence assay. The Kd values for BMAA_159_min and BMAA_165_min were 6 ± 1 μM and 0.63 ± 0.02 μM, respectively. Alterations in the amino proton region studied using solution nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) provided further evidence of aptamer-target binding. Additionally, circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy revealed that BMAA_165_min forms hybrid G-quadruplex (G4) structures. Finally, BMAA_165_min was used in the development of an electrochemical aptamer-based (EAB) sensor that accomplished sensitive and selective detection of BMAA with a limit of detection (LOD) of 1.13 ± 0.02 pM.

Growth and Storage Study of Streptococcus agalactiae as a Potential Target in Whole-Cell Based ‘Systematic Evolution of Ligands by Exponential Enrichment (SELEX)’ Procedure

Streptococcus agalactiae is a pathobiont that causes severe invasive infections, especially in fishponds or freshwater aquatic organisms. Streptococcus outbreak in cultured fishponds causes a negative impact on the production of fishes, especially tilapias. Therefore, it is essential to develop a reliable method for on-site monitoring of S. agalactiae in fishponds. This study aims to investigate a local S. agalactiae strain TP540K as a potential target for DNA aptamer in a whole-cell based ‘systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX)’ procedure. Before this procedure, the bacterial growth profile of S. agalactiae strain TP540K was studied. Besides, the viability of S. agalactiae strain TP540K was compared between different storage solutions (glycerol, phosphate buffer saline, distilled water) and temperatures (-20, 4 and 27 °C). In this study, S. agalactiae strain TP540K entered the log phase at 1.5 h of incubation time, thus the cells were collected at 2 h of incubation time with an OD600 value of 0.436 to proceed to SELEX process. Moreover, glycerol stock (20%, -20 °C) was the best storage condition for preservation of S. agalactiae strain TP540K until Day 84 with a cell viability of 2.48 x 107 CFU/mL. With the findings obtained, S. agalactiae strain TP540K could be utilised as a target for future study in DNA aptamer development through whole-cell based SELEX procedure, which could be useful for future investigations to overcome Streptococcus outbreak in the Malaysian aquaculture industry.
